The first couple of steps are pretty simple. Make sure you move all of your heavy furniture to the center of the room. Make sure to cover it with plastic drop cloths. Also, make sure to use canvas drop cloths on the floor since the plastic tends to become slippery. Next, if you need to cover a ceiling fan or an outlet make sure you remove the cover plates.

If you are painting a ceiling make sure that the hanging fixtures have protection. Take fan blades odd and then wrap the fixture with plastic. The cover plate should slide down as well. In the room, you are painting make sure you cover and door hardware as well. You can use painter’s tape as well as plastic bags to get them covered.

The second process is to remove the wallpaper. The first step is to score the paper with a scoring tool. Make sure to use a circular motion to perforate the paper. Next spray the paper with wallpaper removal spray. The paper needs to be wet in order to remove it. For the next step, you’re going to need a putty knife to use as a scraper. Once the paper is removed make sure the wall is cleaned off with any paste residue with warm.

The last process before painting the room is to clean. Clean the walls by vacuuming dust off of the baseboards and moldings. This will prevent dust and other particles from entering your paint job.
