Preparation Before Painting

There are many processes when it comes to any task to improve your home. Painting is one of those that has instructions to each portion. There are a few keys processes before you can actually begin to paint. The first process is to protect the room.

The first couple of steps are pretty simple. Make sure you move all of your heavy furniture to the center of the room. Make sure to cover it with plastic drop cloths. Also, make sure to use canvas drop cloths on the floor since the plastic tends to become slippery. Next, if you need to cover a ceiling fan or an outlet make sure you remove the cover plates.

If you are painting a ceiling make sure that the hanging fixtures have protection. Take fan blades odd and then wrap the fixture with plastic. The cover plate should slide down as well. In the room, you are painting make sure you cover and door hardware as well. You can use painter’s tape as well as plastic bags to get them covered.

The second process is to remove the wallpaper. The first step is to score the paper with a scoring tool. Make sure to use a circular motion to perforate the paper. Next spray the paper with wallpaper removal spray. The paper needs to be wet in order to remove it. For the next step, you’re going to need a putty knife to use as a scraper. Once the paper is removed make sure the wall is cleaned off with any paste residue with warm.

The last process before painting the room is to clean. Clean the walls by vacuuming dust off of the baseboards and moldings. This will prevent dust and other particles from entering your paint job. The second step is to wipe the walls down with a damp rag, just a quick once over will do. A heads up if your walls do have oil or other residue on them make sure to wash them with trisodium phosphate for a more thorough cleaning.

Many paining companies may tell you they can apply an epoxy floor, but not every epoxy floor application is done correctly.  For example, one step that some epoxy flooring companies may miss is that of preparing the floor properly before applying the epoxy.

If the floor is not prepared properly whether it a garage floor epoxy or a company shipping bay, the epoxy can flake off and crack over time.  In order to prepare the floor, the floor must be taken from a smooth state to one that is very rough and able to hold the epoxy over a long period of time.

To do this, Mountain Valley Painting has a system called shot blasting. This system uses very technical equipment that shoots small buckshot at a very high rate of speed a the concrete floor which will cause the floor to become very rough and porous. This preparation helps the floor hold the epoxy secure and will hold it longer so that your epoxy floor will last longer.

Don’t let other epoxy flooring application companies apply the epoxy before the prepare the flooring to hold the epoxy properly.  Call the experts at Mountain Valley Painting for your epoxy floor installation.
